Alan Stokes is an emerging soulful British singer/songwriter. A professional surfer living on the Cornish coast, Alan is already established internationally, celebrated as one of the most stylish and soulful wave riders to come from British shores. Alan’s life has always had a special connection with the sea, his laidback flowing acoustic folk melodies and heart felt honest lyrics, cast the listener away to the windswept coastal landscape they were written in.

Records made by the sun ‘Howl At The Moon’ Alan’s debut single release was recorded in April 2019 in the environmentally friendly solar and battery powered Black Bay Studios on the Isles of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. An impromptu surf trip with good friend, one of Britain's most respected songwriters Neil Halstead of Slowdive and Mojave 3. Halstead took on the producing role in the studio guiding Alan and passing down invaluable advice throughout the recording process. Alongside the likes of John Martyn, Neil Young, Ben Howard, The Tallest Man on Earth and Nick Drake, Alan list’s Halstead as one of his biggest musical influencers.

lyrics

Howl At The Moon

Rain falling in the dead of night
Birds calling in the morning light

Are we falling laying side by side here
As we drift further away
And your eyes dear are blue like the horizon
As you turn and softly say
I'm all yours

Last shadow of a setting sun
Howl at the moon as we came undone

And its clear now things are always changing
As we move towards darker days
Have no fear I'll be your companion
As we walk through morning haze
Oh I'm all yours

Times changing with passing days
Holding fast to stay this way

And we tried oh my god we tried
With every last breath and changing tide
But as the old sun slipped into the ocean
We stared into each others eyes and cried
Our last good byes

Howl at the moon as we come undone
